The 73rd Annual Student Exhibition opens on April 3rd and continues through April 17th at the McDonough Museum of Art. Student artists will be honored at a reception and awards ceremony on Friday, April 3 from 6 - 8 pm at the Museum. The awards, which are made possible through local businesses and individuals who generously support the annual exhibition, will be announced that evening at 7 pm. Braille, musical guest will be playing an ambient and acoustic set to enhance the evening’s atmosphere. The awards reception and ceremony are free and open to the public.
This year we are proud to have Anderson Turner as the juror. Anderson Turner is currently the Director of Galleries at Kent State University School of Art. He earned a BFA from the University of Arizona, and MFA in Ceramics from Kent State University. He has exhibited regionally and nationally. Mr. Turner was the assistant editor of Ceramics Monthly magazine, and he has also edited numerous Handbooks for The American Ceramic Society.
The Student Art Association, the Department of Art and the McDonough Museum sponsor the exhibition. The annual exhibition draws participation from over a hundred students who are enrolled in the Department of Art classes at Youngstown State University during the academic year. A major goal of this program is to provide students with experience in preparing and presenting their work for a professionally juried show.
The McDonough will host a closing reception on April 17 from 6-8pm. This reception will be a release party for Perspective: The Emerging Artists of Youngstown, the first Student Art Association designed and published magazine. This magazine will feature many of the works that were chosen to be in the 73rd Annual Student Art Exhibition as well as other student work. We welcome back Braille, for another evening of musical exploration.
The McDonough Museum of Art is located on the campus of Youngstown State University on Wick Avenue between Spring Street and Lincoln Avenue near the M-1 parking deck.
