Paramount Project
January 13 – February 3, 2012
Reception, January 21 , 6-8pm

Joining placemaking and restoration efforts across the country to benefit community development in the city of Youngstown

Individuals from across the Mahoning Valley are working together to shape the future of our community.  Business professionals, artists, activists, university leaders, public servants and individuals who simply care about the quality of life in Youngstown are uniting to create a shared vision of a revitalized city.

Restoration and renovation of the Paramount Theater site into a multi-use performance and gathering space will join others, Youngstown Business Incubator, Ballet Western Reserve, the Oakland Center for the Arts, the DeYor Performing Arts Center, the Youngstown Symphony Center, Youngstown State University, the Covelli Centre, restaurants, cafés, clubs and luxury apartments, in establishing yet another anchor for downtown development.

Thanks to a generous award from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund the celebrated terracotta façade of the Paramount Theater will be restored reviving its important historic presence on West Federal and Hazel Streets.  An open public square will replace the original structure to create a downtown cultural nexus for events as diverse as farmers markets, community movie nights, theater and dance productions, concerts and festivals, as well as private events from graduation parties to wedding receptions.

The Paramount Project is committed to expanding Youngstown’s cultural options by restoring the Liberty Paramount Theater site to a common space dedicated to enhancing intellectual, artistic, and agricultural community within the city.

From January 13 to February 3 the McDonough Museum of Art, Youngstown State University’s Center for Contemporary Art will function as a venue for traveling through time. Visit the Liberty-Paramount Theater as it was in all its original glory through photos, memorabilia, moving pictures and story telling. Then experience a simulation of the vision for this new community gathering space and learn more about the planning process.

On Saturday, January 21 from 6–8pm The Paramount Project will host a benefit event to celebrate the initiation of Phase I and invite you to become one ofthe growing number of community supporters. We ask you to join us at the McDonough for this very special evening. Please save the date.  More information will be forthcoming in the near future.
